Updates from the Co-Founders of the HUB

Today, the Co-Founders of the HUB of Analytics Education announce their plans to become independent from Northeastern University and the D’Amore-McKim School of Business. On May 14, 2018, we filed our application for recognition as a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Organization. Over the next 7-months, you will see subtle changes to our website and organization. These changes do not change our central mission – Delivering Open Educational Resources to Educators around the Globe.

This weekend, we signed up our 500th Account to a member of a college or university. We have 285 colleges and universities represented by these 500 educators. We are proud how you, our users, responded to our materials. Without you, the HUB of Analytics Education is a forgotten effort. Your interest, use, and advocacy of our materials is the primary driver for our growth over the first 20 months of our existence.

HUB & IBM Watson Analytics

Northeastern University has a 
long-term relationship with IBM. Recently, Northeastern and IBM announced a strategic learning collaboration with IBM’s Open Badge program that will integrate industry training with academic credentials. Those who hold IBM badges are eligible for advanced standing within a range of Northeastern’s professional graduate programs. 

At the HUB, we are working to incorporate IBM’s Watson Analytics into the Big Data Curriculum. At Northeastern, students and faculty have cloud access to IBM Watson. Co-Founder Charlie Bame-Aldred likes the idea of incorporating Watson Analytics. “Adding the Watson platform to our open educational materials provides faculty around the globe with another alternative to introduce Big Data Analytics into their classrooms.” Read about the team tasked with bringing IBM Watson Analytics cases to the HUB of Analytics Education.
 

HUB Partners with Oracle/Netsuite

February 7, 2018

We are excited to announce the completion of our Oracle/Netsuite platform. Over the last 12 months, we loaded the June 2016 Bibitor Dataset into the Netsuite.com platform. All 12.4 million sales records, 2.4 million purchase records, 12,000 inventory brands, and 12,000 other expense records are available via a cloud ERP.

Faculty are encouraged to contact the Oracle Academy Team to get your own account and access for your students. In the coming weeks, we will add ODBC (Online DataBase Connectivity) capabilities.

December 2017 Bibitor Data Available

While Tom Brady and the Patriots were not able to get their 6th Lombardi Trophy on Sunday, the HUB Team was busy adding our 7th dataset to the Bibitor, LLC Datvironment. HUB > The New England Patriots? When it comes to Big Data, YES!

New Materials from Professor Theophanis Stratopoulos

Professor Theophanis Stratopoulos has contributed new material to the HUB.  He 
continues to amaze with the creation of “Audit Data Analytics with R” located under Datvironment->Bibitor, LLC->Exercises.

 Log into your educator account and take a look at the data tables and the R code he wrote. He is a HUB and Big Data Champion!
 

What is a “Datvironment”?

On our website menu, we replaced the word “Company” with Datvironment“. 

A Datvironment is our word to describe a set of materials related to a specific entity. The materials include the datasets, cases and exercises, process flowcharts, and process manuals. All of these materials within the Datvironment are useful in teaching Big Data Analytics in your curriculum. Datvironment is more descriptive of future projects under development, such as the Northeastern Athletics Dataset.

For further assistant visit our Tableau Software page. 


Students do not access to the Dataset and Support Materials (e.g. Process Manuals and Flowcharts). Educator need to download these materials and transfer the materials their secure teaching platform (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas). 
 

New Data

November 2, 2017
The September 30, 2017, year-end Bibitor, LLC dataset is now available. We are working on the same year-end for BCGG, Inc. We recently completed the Bibitor, LLC payroll tables for September 2016, December 2016, March 2017, and June 2017. We continue to refine our methodologies to make these datasets available faster.

  • We are revising the Bibitor, LLC Other Period Expense data table for June 2016. This revision paves the way for all year-ends for Other Period Expenses. Revised financial statements for June 2016 and newly created financial statements for the year-ends through June 2017 will follow.

Big Data Analytics and Data Visualizations: Teaching and Tableau

October 27, 2017
On Wednesday, November 8, Midori Ng, Academic Programs Coordinator for Tableau, will conduct an hour-long introduction to teaching with Tableau. Currently, there are two Tableau cases/exercises using Bibitor, LLC Data as well as Student Tutorial Videos and support materials, including directions on obtaining a license.  We have more Tableau cases/exercises in development. Thank you Tableau for your commitment to helping our faculty expand Big Data Visualization tools into our curriculum.
